Hello adventurers and happy December! Today something quite special is happening here on Adventure Rules, a community event that I sincerely hope you will all enjoy. This is not the first time we’ve done Charming and Open here, but since that time a lot of new folks have joined the adventurer community. So for those of you who weren’t around for the first event (and for those who might need a refresher), let’s go over how this works.
THE EVENT
Charming and Open is inspired by a move of the same name in the tabletop RPG Dungeon World. In the game, it allows a character to ask a direct question and get an honest answer, but there’s a catch – in speaking openly enough to ask that question, they give the target the opportunity to ask a question on the same terms. This idea of an open exchange of questions to which both parties must give an honest answer is the basis of the community event.
Charming and Open is an opportunity for you to ask me a question about video games, tabletops, or blogging in general. I’ll answer your question as a full length post right here on Adventure Rules. In exchange, if you’re a blogger and want to participate, I’ll ask you a question which you can then answer as a full length post on your own blog. We link each other and encourage our followers to check out the other’s post – in this way, the event helps to build community as we exchange ideas and spread the world about one another’s blogs.

THE RULES
Here’s how it works. In order to ask me a question, all you have to do is post that question in the comments of this article. In your comment, please include whether or not you would like me to ask you a question as well. I’ll acknowledge your comment to let you know whether or not the question has been approved as well as the estimated date I’ll be posting my answer.
“Approved?” There are some guidelines as to what kind of questions you are able to ask, but they are very simple guidelines. Nothing hateful or prejudiced, nothing unrelated to the topics covered on Adventure Rules, no repeat questions, and only one question per person. While I ultimately reserve the right to reject any question, if you follow those guidelines then chances are you’re going to get an answer. Here are some examples of questions from last time to help you get an idea of good questions to ask:
“What is one video game character you feel spiritually connected to?”
“What is your guilty pleasure game?”
“If you could visit any world within a video game, where would you go?”
“What is your opinion on silent versus voiced protagonists?”
Your questions can be general or specific, deal with game mechanics or with a game’s story, whatever interests you the most about gaming. I’ll also be glad to talk tabletop RPGs, blogging – heck, even questions about other blogging events are on the table as far as I’m concerned. I’ll answer the question to the best of my ability, and I hope you’ll do the same for me!
ASKED AND ANSWERED
In addition to serving as the explanation of the rules, this post will also serve as a hub where you can check out all of the articles that come out of this event. I’ll be updating it as I answer questions and as folks answer my questions, so be sure to revisit from time to time to see how it has grown and expanded.
Questions will be open from the time this is posted (9 AM EST on Friday, December 1st, 2017) until 72 hours later at 9 AM on Monday, December 4th, 2017. I intend to answer every question I receive during that time period, but no later, so be sure to get your question submitted before the deadline Monday morning. QUESTIONS ARE NOW CLOSED! Thanks to everyone who submitted a question and participated in the event. You can keep coming back to this post throughout the month of December to find my responses to the questions I receive as well as the responses of other adventurers to the questions that I ask them!

Count me in! Here goes: which video game character would you most like to meet in real life and why?
I’m up for being asked a question in return! 😀

I like this question because there’s often a difference between which character you think is the “coolest” and who would actually be pleasant to meet in person. I’ll shoot for Monday for my response!
As for my question for you, I know you have two game-themed cats in real life, BUT – if you could choose any creature from a video game to be your pet, what would you choose and why?

Oh now that’s tough… I’m a sucker for anything cute and fluffy ha ha ha! I’ll get a response ready by the middle of the month.
Thanks for letting me join in!

Oh Boy! Here Goes! Whats the most embarrassing gaming moments you ever experienced?
Feel free to ask me a question too!

It took me a bit to think on this but once I remembered the moment, I knew it was the one! I will plan to post my response to your question on Wednesday the 6th.
As for my question for you…if you could choose one series to reboot, which one would it be and what would you change about it?

I think I may have the perfect answer to that question! I’ll let you know when my post is published. Probably next week!

Which would you choose?
You can play any game of your choosing months before before anyone else. You have exclusive rights to review it before anyone else, but you would have to dissect it piece by piece. You would have to write up the bugs and flaws of the game and, once it is released, never touch it again.
Or
You can play any game once it is released, but you will not be allowed to give your opinion publicly towards the game. Instead, you will only be allowed to write the creators exclusively. They will take your ideas and use them, but you will never receive the credit or be mentioned.
Kinda long I know.
I’m down for a question and maybe it will be shorter then the one I gave you haha.

It most definitely will be, haha! I certainly like your question and will take some time to let it bounce around in the ole noggin – I’ll plan to post my response to your question next Friday.
As for my question for you, what game have you played/beaten the most and what about it keeps bringing you back in?

I thought this would be child’s play, but honestly a few come to mind. I’ll have to think about this one, but I will have something ready by next Friday!

I said this on Twitter already but this is awesome! Ok, so:
I enjoyed your article recently about Healers, and I was thinking that quite often Healers use staffs. But, using as many or as few different examples as you like as explanation, what is your favourite weapon type (sword, axe etc) and why? This could include any type of game you like.
Hope this is an ok question, and if so I’d like to take one in return 😀

I’m always down to talk about some sweet gaming weapons! I’ll plan to post my response to your question on Monday, December 11th. In the meantime, as a question for you…
If you could write the story for the next game in your favorite series, what would that game be about?

Woah! This is going to be interesting! Do we aim publish our responses on the same day? The 11th might be a wee bit of a stretch, but I’ll aim for it!

You can post whenever you’re ready. If you need more time than the 11th that’s totally fine – I’m simply scheduling my posts out based on the normal posting schedule of Adventure Rules. You take however much time you need!

Which gaming character would you least likely to meet down a dark alley, and which would you most like to have by your side to protect you if you did happen to run into them?
And yes, of course you can ask me a question!

Ah yes, the classic dark alley scenario, an excellent question. I will think on it and plan to have my answer up by Wednesday, December 13th.
My question for you then, is this two-parter: if you were the villain in a video game, what would your powers be and what would be your motivation for taking over the world?

Ooooh. An excuse to fantasise about being an evil mega-villain without it seeming weird! So I now do a separate post about this? (I feel bad for asking; I think I should have understood the format by now, but I’m a sucker for double-checking.)
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, so you do a separate post on your own blog and link me in it, and I link you in my post giving you credit for the idea. So ideally anyone checking out my answer to your question will go check out your blog, and vice versa.
And no worries about the double-checking, better to ask and make sure than to just assume and end up doing something weird!

Excellent! I am finally going to be able to participate in this event 🙂 Missed it last time!
Ok – here is my question: if you had to work as an NPC in a village/town/city from any open-world game, what village/town/city would you choose and what would your job be?
Example: Bookseller in Balmora (Morrowind)
Would love a question in return! 😀

Glad to have you here this time around, Geddy! I’ll definitely have to give this one some thought as there are lots of cool NPC careers to choose from. I’ll probably post my response to you on Friday, December 15th.
Here’s my question for you: if you had to move into a dungeon from a video game, which one would you want to live in and why?

If you could take a holiday in any gaming location what place would you choose to go and how would you spend your holiday there?
Feel free to ask me a question in return.

This is a fun question and one that I actually got last time I did the event – but it’s an open enough question and I think I can certainly think of a second game world I’d want to holiday in. I’ll plan my answer to go up around December 18th.
As for my question for you, if you could choose one mode of transportation from a video game to be your personal ride, what would you choose?

Ooh interesting, lots of ideas coming to mind to answer that. I will aim to get a response posted around December 18th as well if all goes to plan.

Question: Which ability/power from a game would you most like to have in real life?
I’m happy to receive a question in response!

Ooh, that’s a good one – a classic lunch table discussion. I’ll have to think back to those days and see if my answer has changed now. I’ll plan to post my response around December 20th, if things go smoothly.
Now to think of a question for you…if you were captured by a dastardly villain and only had 24 hours to be rescued, which game hero would you call to come to your aid?

Haha that’s a GREAT question!! 🙂 Should I post my blog on 20th too or any time?

You can post whenever you feel like. If you get yours done earlier than mine, that’s cool, if you post the same day, that’s cool, if you post later, that’s cool. Whatever works best for your writing and posting schedule!

Sounds like fun!
My question is; what is the one game that you’ve always wanted to complete but never have? The one that got away, so to speak.
I’d like you to ask me a question too!

Ah, that’s a great question and I definitely have a couple of games in mind already. I’ll get it figured out and have my post up around December 22nd.
For you, I will offer up this question: what are your dream game announcements for 2018, the ones you wouldn’t even think were possible but would be the most exciting if they were real?

Thank you! That’s a good question….and one I’ll need to think about. Might post my answer to your question up in the 22nd too, if that’s ok?

Yeah, that works for me! You have total control over when you post, do whatever it best for your schedule and writing process.

If you were stranded on a desert island with one video game character, who would it be and why? Yay! I finally thought of a question, haha. I will also take a question if you have one for me 🙂
And that picture reminded me I still miss Blogger Blitz 😦

Man, everyone keeps stranding me on desert islands! At least they’re nice enough to give me things, haha. I will plan for my response to go up on December 27th.
As for my question for you…if you had to have a recurring villain from a game as a major character in your real life but got to choose which one, who would you choose and why?

Good question! I’ll ponder it and have a response posted around the same time as yours 🙂

Aw, this is where we met. Haha
Speaking of meeting people, what would you tell a new blogger who wanted to get into writing, but was afraid of what the reception of their articles would be like?

Also, yes, if you have a question for me, I’d love to answer it!

We did meet during Charming and Open! I guess we’re coming full circle then, haha. I really enjoy this question and the timing of things really works out, because I think that is the perfect topic to finish off 2017 and bring in 2018. I’ll plan for my answer to debut on December 29th, my last post for the year!
As for my question for you, since you’re asking me for my advice for new starts, I would be interested in hearing how you got your start. What inspired you to create AmbiGaming Corner and begin your blogging adventure?

Excellent! I’m interested to hear your response. And I’m intrigued by this question, since it’s kind of an odd story, I think. I’ll likewise post at the end of the year on the 27th with my response 🙂
