Adventure Rules Monthly Update: The Headless Chicken

Hello, adventurers, and welcome to me having no idea what the heck is going on. If you read my most recent update, you know that I recently took a blogging break to get my head in order because I’ve had a whole lot of stuff going on in the month of May. Well, the break didn’t necessarily accomplish what I intended – I’m still stressed, I am no more organized than I was two weeks ago, and I still have SO many things coming up in the next…oh, seven or eight weeks.

Don’t panic – I’m not about to announce a two-month break. I’m not announcing a break at all. Part of my goal for 2017 is to be consistent with my posting schedule, and during the recent break I accomplished that by finishing a ton of posts just before I stopped writing so that you all would still have stuff to read while I was gone. Hopefully I won’t have to do that again this month or next, but if it comes up at least we know that Adventure Rules doesn’t have to shut down every time my life gets a little hectic.

“So what’s going on this month, anyway?”

Well, adventurers, I am going to be traveling every weekend for the next two weekends due to a very special and exciting event: my son’s second birthday! The little fella actually turns two the day I’m posting this update, but because of scheduling conflicts and travel distance we are having not one, not two, but THREE birthday parties over the next few weeks to make sure that everyone who wants to celebrate gets the opportunity.

My face when I realized we’d need three parties.

Because of all the traveling and celebrating, a good chunk of my writing time might get eaten up. In the midst of all that, E3 is going to be happening, but this year there’s no way I’m going to be able to live tweet everything the way I did last year. I’m not between jobs this time around, and because I have to take off for a week and a half in July, there’s no way I can take three or four days in June as well. E3 week is also Vacation Bible School at the church my wife and I attend, and while I’m not planning to teach or anything there’s still the possibility that I’ll get roped in some way or other. Which is even more writing time down the drain.

Despite everything that’s happening I’m going to be doing my best to stay on top of E3 and to post my reactions to the various conferences. Much like last year, I anticipate to actually have postworthy things to say about Nintendo and Bethesda, MAYBE Sony depending on what they have up their sleeves this year (NI NO KUNI 2?!), and any reactions I have to Microsoft stuff will probably be limited to sarcastic comments on Twitter.

Example above. Yes, I did in fact tweet this just to make this joke work. Go see for yourself!

E3 will probably be “the big thing” this month with everything else I have going on. In the meantime, I’m going to try to be thinking of some kind of fun community event for July. I probably won’t bring back Charming and Open *just* yet, but definitely expect it again this year. And who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy July’s activity as well!

Speaking of activities, during my break I brought back some old segments and gave the adventurer community their choice of which one should come back. And you all voted loudly and clearly! By which I mean, the only person who voted was my mother. That’s still a vote in the sense that it tells me as a content creator that voting for future segments or returning segments or whatever is not something that appeals to my readers, which is 100% okay. For every Charming and Open I come up with, I’ll probably come up with a Final Friday as well, so just bear with me and feel free to be honest about which segments are trash.

That being said, one person did vote (thanks Mom!), so let’s all say a big congratulations to our new returning segment, Moral of the Story! Honestly, even without the vote I was planning on picking that one – your comments, likes, and reblogs indicated that this post was the one that adventurers would like to see more of.

Speaking of segments, we’ve gone a whole month without Tabletop Tuesday now and that’s something I might try to address in June. It’s tricky writing about that form of gaming when I’m not actually engaged in it currently, but I have been itching to play a tabletop so I might be able to squeeze out a little something just by talking about what I would do if I could play one.

“How are you gonna post a Tabletop Tuesday on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule?”

Oh, it’s just a name – I can post a Tabletop Tuesday on any day I want to! It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

I’m so mischievous!

One last thing before I wrap things up today – I want to say a huge thank you to all of the adventurers who joined our ranks in May. I made a big deal about the nearly 25% increase in followers in April, and in May we had a similar explosion of growth – almost a 20% increase in WordPress followers! And that’s not even counting all of my new companions on Twitter. It’s been fun having so many new adventurers join the community and I’ve had the opportunity to talk to you about some of your own articles or about upcoming titles like ARMS – it’s been a blast. Please feel welcome here and I look forward to interacting with all of you even more throughout the month of June!

That’s gonna be it for me today, adventurers. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you’ll continue to be patient with me as all this crazy stuff happens. I’m still planning to keep things running smoothly here on the blog, and you can expect some serious E3 shenanigans coming up soon. Have a wonderful weekend, and I hope to meet some of you in fearsome battle during the second wave of the ARMS Testpunch!
