Announcing a Hiatus

Hello again, adventurers. How long has it been now? Weeks? Months? Years?

In reality, it has only been a week or so since my last post. It feels like longer to me, but I know as the reader of a blog that sometimes time can fly by without really noticing that sort of thing. I don’t necessarily notice the radio silence of blogs that I follow right away, so me pointing out “hey, I haven’t posted anything” might be the first time some of you are aware of it. And that’s cool. I just want to make it official instead of leaving my absence to speculation.

I’m taking a hiatus.

As you may know from my last update, I’m in a transitional phase right now. Trying to get a new job, trying to write for publication – these things combined with things going on in my social and family lives all has my mind pretty well focused on other things. I rarely have ideas for posts, and even when I do I tend to find that it happens when I don’t have time to write it out.

So rather than give you subpar content, I’m gonna get things straight first. Once I get settled into a new normal, I’ll come back with another update about how things are going, and then get back into the swing of things with posts about all things video game and tabletop.

I understand that taking this hiatus is not a particularly intelligent decision when it comes to things like, say, the five blog goals I set at the beginning of this year. However – honesty moment – my life goals are way more important to me than my blog goals. Adventure Rules is fun, I enjoy writing for you folks, but at the end of the day this was always meant to be a stepping stone to what I really want to do.

Again, let me emphasize: Adventure Rules is taking a break. A vacation, if you will. I’m using some personal time, maybe even a little unpaid time, but I’m not quitting the job. The blog will be back. And to make up for my silence and inconsistent posts for the last little bit, I’m going to do my best to come back with a bang and have some new designs and new segments and a bunch of fun new stuff like that.

But for now, until I get myself sorted, I can’t keep this sorted. So this is me saying I’ll see you later, I’ll miss you guys, but I need some time to myself.

For those of you who have been around for awhile, for those who might be disappointed that I didn’t come back to say “let’s pick this back up,” but instead to say “we’re taking a break;” I’m sorry if this isn’t what you want to hear. I thank you for your patience and for your support over the past few months. I truly hope to see you again when I return and that this break won’t permanently sever your enjoyment of Adventure Rules.
