Hey, adventurers! As a number of you know, WordPress is not the only place where you can find Adventure Rules. The website has three different social media outlets: Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. When Adventure Rules II premiered at the beginning of the year, I promised exclusive content for those who followed on those sites.
The original deal was this: Facebook would have family-related posts, Twitter would have exclusive tabletop content, and Tumblr would have fanfic content not available on the other sites. Unfortunately, only one of those three things worked out as expected. While the Tumblr-exclusive content is going strong, the other sites have kind of flopped.
Luckily, today’s update is about how I’m working to change that. I recently declared a series of goals for the blog, and one of those goals was to get each social media site together by finding its niche, creating a reliable schedule, and holding to that schedule for a significant period of time. I believe I have discovered the niche for Twitter.
As a long-winded person, Twitter has been the most challenging place for me to include custom content. It is very difficult for me to say anything of significance in 140 characters. So instead, I’ve decided to skip the characters entirely and post a completely new kind of Adventure Rules content: cartoons.
You can probably tell this, but I do my own art. I’m not particularly good at it, but I do have a quirky sort of style that I like to pretend is somewhat charming. At the very least, it works for a tongue-in-cheek setting like the blog. Back in high school, I used to make comic strips for my friends. You know, instead of studying chemistry or calculus or whatever. I like to read cartoons as well, and though in no way do I consider myself an expert, I think I’m solid enough at it that a cartoon I draw might have the potential to elicit a chuckle or two.
If you’re already following on Twitter, you’ve likely seen a few of these cartoons already. Hopefully you’ve been enjoying them! If you’re not on Twitter, then you can find me right here. If you check out the cartoons and enjoy them, be sure to follow to see them whenever they are posted! I don’t have a schedule worked out yet – work has been wonky lately, so I’ll have to wait until I have a normal week to realistically estimate how often I can do these cartoons while also providing blog posts while also posting exclusive fanfic…you get the idea.
Speaking of fanfic, if you have been reading and enjoying The Outrealms but you haven’t bookmarked or followed the Adventure Rules Tumblr, then you need to do so. There are quite a few special features there, including character bios and sections of the story that are not posted here on the main site. I’m also planning to do bloopers before too long, so that’s something else to look forward to.
And then there’s Facebook. For the time being, I’ve been using it for status-update type posts, just talking about games I’ve been playing or sharing posts from other people that I enjoy. I may do with Facebook what I originally planned to do with Twitter and post exclusive tabletop-related posts there, but I don’t necessarily want to commit to that just yet. I don’t think it will be much longer until I figure Facebook out too, but in the meantime you can follow me there by liking this page.
Now there’s one other goal I want to address really quick: the follower goal. Adventurers, you guys are killing it. At the pace the blog is gaining followers, I think there is a good chance that we can hit our 100 follower goal early enough to set a new goal for this year. And that’s awesome. I want to thank all of you yet again for your support, because it means a lot that you all enjoy reading the blog and that you’re invested in helping it grow. Thank you so much, adventurers. January has been a really successful month for the blog and I think it’s only going to go uphill from here!
I hope you enjoyed this update and that you’re excited for the growth of the blog on social media. Be sure to follow on any sites featuring content you’re interested in – or follow on all of them to never miss out on Adventure Rules content!
I love your drawings! They are very endearing. I definitely struggle with keeping up my Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr pages as well. In fact I’m planning a post on it soon like yours here. I’ll be following you on those sites too!
